Is It Worth to Upgrade from iPhone 3G to 3GS

Is it worth it to upgrade from iPhone 3G to iPhone 3GS for $400 if you already own an iPhone 3G? To be honest, $400 is a lot for a new phone. In fact, instead of upgrading to iPhone 3G S for that amount of money, you can buy one of many smartphones in the market and you don’t have to sign a new contract. And if you do want to sign a new 2 year service plan, there are tons of free phones offered by AT&T including many Blackberry and Windows Mobile smart phones.
So, should I upgrade to iPhone 3G? The biggest advantage you will get when you upgrade from iPhone 3G to 3GS is the much improved camera - 3.0 megapixel vs. 2.0 megapixel. The plus is that you can take videos and edit them right on the iPhone before even downloading to your PC or Mac. Who needs new camcorder, really? I had a digital camcorder years ago and only used it a few times. Now with the built in camcorder in the iPhone 3G S, there is no need to carry anything extra. Point and shoot and upload it to YouTube right away.
It’s true that the new Apple iPhone 3G S offers much faster speed than iPhone 3G - up to 3.4 times faster when viewing an Excel document. But do you really need that kind of speed all the time? AT&T has promised to roll out 7.2 mps HSDPA 3G network later this year and have the entire network completed by 2011. So, depending on where you will be using the phone. This promise can be a few months to 1 year or 2 years away.
So, is it worth it to upgrade to iPhone 3GS from iPhone 3G? Should you wait for new version to come in 2010? Unless you can get a regular upgrade price like $199, I don’t think it is worth upgrading to iPhone 3G S at this time.
