Official Palm Pre Sprint Plans
March 12, 2009 by John
Official Palm Pre plans have been firmed by Sprint and Palm. You can choose from 3 different individual Palm Pre plans and 3 family plans. The $69.99 plan gives you 450 anytime minutes, $89.99 plan gives you 900 minutes. And unlimited minute plan goes for $99.99.
Palm Pre family plan starts at $129.99 for two Pre phone, or choose something else for the second line. The 3000 minutes shared plan cost $169.99. If you really need unlimited calling for everyone in the family, it will cost $189.99. Adding a extra line to the PalmPre family plan will be $19.99 additional except for the unlimited everything family plan, which requires $89.99 on each line.
Regardless which Palm Pre plan you choose from Sprint, unlimited data and text messaging is already included: Web surfing, email, BlackBerry Internet Services (BIS), GPS Navigation, Music Premier, TV Premier, NFL Mobile Live, NASCAR Sprint Cup Mobile, text, pictures, and video. Night calling and weekends starting at 7 p.m., nationwide long distance and no roaming charges, mobile to mobile is always free.

Hope they get this phone out before Apple has the new 3g iphone spec come out.
The storm can be used as a modem for a laptop. will pre have this capability?
[...] Rumors have it that the Pre will be launched by Sprint sometime in June 09. Sprint just announced a pricing plan that will allow me to use a Pre for just $69.99/month. One advantage of the Pre over the iPhone is [...]
@angel, yes, you will be able to use the Palm Pre as a modem.
[...] Palm Pre comes with cheap plans too. For only $69, you get 450 minutes, unlimited data, GPS Navigation, unlimited text and video [...]
Has anyone heard anything about the pre’s price?
$199 is good guess. Palm will have a chance to kill iphone at that price or lower.
So does the announcement of “Palm Pre” plans mean that the Everything Share Data 1500 plan the wife and I had to switch to when we got our Touch Pro’s aren’t compatible? Seriuosly, what else could you need?
@Steve C, they are basically the same plans as for Touch Pro and Instinct. You can buy the Pre phone only and swap out the Touch Pro.
Thanks John. My wife doesn’t qualify for upgrade for about 16 months, so she doesn’t plan on upgrading when the Pre comes out. I on the hand, am holding my update for the Pre. So all will be well if we can keep our share everything data plan, at the current cost. Sprint tech support told me to expect the Pre on the 15th of March. I guess she was wrong…..
i really hate the idea of having to get the data plan for all the lines even though the other lines don’t need data plan i currently have the instinct and 4 other lines i have to pay an additional 19.95 a month for those lines even though they dont need all the bells and whistles i hate that the pre might be doing the same thing that kinda sucks
all i know is it’s taking too long to finally come out. i’m also saving my upgrade especially for the pre and it seems as if i’ve been waiting for ever and a day now.
if i have unlimited web use on all 7 lines due to a promotion/good will that sprint gave to us for messing up our bills month after month, will i be able to purchase the phone and use my existing plan?
@nick, you can buy the Pre at full retail price and then swap out one of our lines to the new Pre at Sprint stores. The rep may tell you that your Palm Pre is not compatable with the old plan, but do insist that you just want to swap the phones without changing anything. If this method works (check your monthly bill) then do the same for all other lines. The only downside is that you have to pay full retail prices.
I have the old Sprint SERO plan - $30 for 500 minutes, unlimited data and texts, nights and weekends starting at 7. If I upgrade to the Pre with the discount, could I just extend that SERO contract? Or would I have to buy the Pre at retail?
@Mike, I believe the only way to keep SERO is to buy at retail and then ask the sales rep to activate the phone. Chances are they will say the phone’s data service won’t work with your current plan. But DO it anyway, as long as the phone can be activated, Internet, text, and email should work as well. You can’t extend/revnew SERO anymore. Everything Plus Referral Program replaced the SERO.
I thrilled they are getting closer but confused by the prices. So I can’t keep the same plan I have for my Centro? If you have the Centro is this an increase or decrease in your monthly rate?
the web and internet package should be optional so that people who want the phone can get it, they should have the 49.99 and unlimited txtin plan available. Like the other palm phones. cuz i reallllly want it, but cant afford that just yet. Maybe someone can pull some strings somewhere. i mean, if they do, they will just sell more of the pre.
I have an older family plan and I do not want to change it. Would I be able to upgrade to the Pre and keep that plan. I do not understand why Sprint would make you change your plan for that phone. I was about to buy 2 instincts and then I was told I had to go with a simply everything plan. If Sprint makes me change my plan to upgrade to a decent phone I can say I will not be with them much longer and I have been with them for years. Please could someone let me know if the Pre would work if I just did an ESN swap?
@teri, an ESN swap should do it. Sprint will always tell you that you need a new plan for the Instinct and Palm Pre. I used to have a grandfathered plan and swap ESN many times and didn’t have to sign a new contract. The sales rep in Sprint store always told me I needed a new plan for the new phone to work. But I insisted on activating the new phone because my old one was broken. It worked for me. Good luck.
@teri and others: I got into this conversation on IM with a Sprint representative. I wanted to upgrade my old A900, and my wife has a phone that she ONLY uses for phone calls and very little texting. So the rep told me I could keep/renew my current shared plan (where I only pay $40 for my plan and $20/month to add her line), and just add the Sprint everything data package for $30/month. According to “Jessica” that would allow me to use the new HTC Touch Pro or Palm Pre and all its web and messaging features without changing my plan to the new more expensive plans (especially the “family” plans for more than one line). So I figure, I’ll do that when I decide on the phone, then upgrade her phone in a month or two an renew the plan again for 2 years. Hope this helps.
I hate Sprint’s customer service but this new palm pre phone just might make me switch back over from At&t. I was planning on purchasing Apple’s updated i phone but might hold off. This new palm pre has some great feature. I guess it all depends on their asking price for the phone.
Omg!!! I’m growing inpatient!!! I’m on ATT & T currently and the Pre won’t be an option till good knows when. June is now the release date or tentative release date. My current Palm is about to keel over..lol. I’m ready to make the switch but these pushbacks are riduculous!!
So I’ve got a SERO plan expiring in a few months as well. I’ve been told that they will renew this if you are insistent and threaten to leave sprint. I’m considering getting a Pre and making an attemt to do the “ESN Swap” and keep my SERO plan until expiration. Then, I’ll try to extend the life of the plan for as long as I possibly can. Any thoughts? Will this work?
@Travis, it will depend on the Sprint CS you talk to and how much luck you get that day if you want the Pre with a discount. Like the comments that I made before, the easiest way to keep SERO is to buy the Palm Pre at retail then go to a Sprint store and ask the rep to replace your old phone with the new Pre without making any change to the existing plan.
Does anybody know what the actual release date is for the Palm Pre
i have had a “go to” retail mananger at sprint for years and she is going to hold 4 of them for me from their shipment (i’m not down for lines) as such, i have three lines with unlimited everything that are not under contract for less than 100/month. i plan to buy them at retail and then just swap phones. the pre will use relatively the same data algorithm as the palm 755p (my current phone). she says the official internal communcate is May 5th (some crazy cinco de mayo promo, lol don’t ask!) hope this helps everyone!
Well Chris, I sure hope you aren’t just starting a rumor, although it might be funny to some, those who are having the sleepless nights waiting for the pre to be released would probable want to hang you by the toe nails. Me, monks showed me how to be patient…Cinco de Mayo would be funny though..I will probably be re-living the old camping for concert tickets thing, before the lottery days that is. In those days, those who stayed up all night waiting in line were rewarded by being the first to get tickets, then someone had to complain and the lottery crap came out!! Some will know what I mean….in any case, I hope we are afforded the chance to wait in line just the old days..that makes for a great all night party!!
I’ve been holding out for the PRE to upgrade from my Treo 755p. I’ve upgraded twice in the past and just reinstalled everything (applets, contact list, memos, etc.) on the new phone using a Backup/Restore program and an SD card. Does anyone know if the PRE will have the same capabilities?
Will you be able to get it on the employee plan and if so will it still cost $20?
I doubt it will be available on employee plan at initial launch.
Andrew, if you can get a hold of the phone it should work with your employee plan but simply doing an ESN Swap, plus these data plans are not new.
as far as the release date, the phones should be shipped to stores sometimes in mid May and out for sale sometime in June. Anybody that tell you the exact dates would be lying [at least for another not for another week or so]
I’ve got a fair & flexible family plan with 6 lines, on three of those lines I am paying an extra $30 for a data package. I expect they will tell me that I need a different plan when I go in to get a Pre, but I don’t need the full data plan for all 6 lines. Will I be able to do what was talked about in some of the other posts with buying the phone at retail cost and having them activate it? what if they refuse?
Edro, as far as I know only the Instinct requires those everything plans, even the Blackberry’s can work with a plan that’s not “everything” but they require you to have the data, in your case you should be fine with that “pro pack” $30 data plan
@John. You are providing information that is unfounded. You have no basis for what you are saying and I am normally not the person to point this kind of stuff out, but you are only going to make the Sprint to Customer relationship worse by creating a false hope. I suggest you stop responding to people’s questions without knowing without a doubt that you are speaking the truth.
@Andrew. You probably won’t be able to buy the Pre at the discount price through Advantage Club, but if you get your hands on a clean ESN Pre, I’m sure the plan can still be available.
@Travis. I wouldn’t touch your SERO plan if you’d like to keep it. Just activate another line and get the Pre if you would like it that badly. SERO is a great deal, and probably one of Sprints biggest failures as far as price point and plans go.
@Chris. If a store manager is planning on holding any sort of phone pre-launch for you, you can kiss their job goodbye. Plus, the objective of the stores is to sell as many as they can, as soon as possible. Holding them for you does not help them do that. Stand in line, suck it up like the rest of the world… You’re not special.
@Kevin, my information is based on personal experience.
I have been waiting for this flipping phone to come out and every time I look into an updated release date, its always later.
June 7th would be an ok release date, as the 10th of June is my birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!!!
