Palm’s Future
March 14, 2007 by John
The latest rumor is palm will be scooped up by nokia or Motorola. This is not the first time similar speculation has come up. what i really wish for is apple would buy palm. Remember the first PDA made by apple - the Newton. it wasn’t a success. But palm picked up the trend and made a hit with palm pilot.
Did apple ever consider buying palm at all? It was very possible before decide to make their own cell phone. But now who will. The only product that nokia and Motorola are interested is the popular Treo phone. Since most of the nokia smart phones runs on Sybian which is a very popular smart phone OS in Europe. And Motorola, they had put palm OS in their cellphones before, with little success. now the windows mobile has been gaining ground over palm OS, and the moto Q is fairly successful. why would motorola buy palm?
Sorry, palm fans, you are so alone. If it has not been the treo phone, palm would have fallen apart by now. And the Treo is not even an original product by palm.
if nokia and Motorola wont, who will? Maybe dell or hp. it a logical step for dell to expand their product line by entering the cellular market after all. Although their pc market share has been deteriorating and the printer hasn’t caught up well lately. Having another hot product will certainly help dell to diverse stream of revenue. But at the time being, dell is really having trouble selling pcs the way they used to. In case you haven’t noticed, Dell is still in the pda business, thought not doing so well. Do you think it would be unwise for dell to pursuit the smartphone area that they are totally unfamiliar with? As for hp, it would also be a logical step for HP to scoop up a long time competitor in the pda arena. Maybe, it has been rumors before, but it never came true.
